About Roamate
What is Roamate?
Roamate™ is the first compatibility-based solo travel app that matches you with travelers who roam like you — not just who happen to be free. You can split costs, share experiences, and still keep your independence. Think “solo but shared
Why did you build Roamate?
Because the travel industry still assumes you come with a plus-one. We didn’t. And we paid for it — in Solo Taxes™ (our founder’s tab? $20,684). Roamate exists to kill that penalty, and the quiet compromises solo travelers have swallowed for too long.
Is Roamate a group tour app?
Nope. Tours tell you when to wake up and what to eat. Roamate doesn’t. This is your trip — your way. We just make sure you’ve got the right person to share the ride, the room, or the rooftop view with.
Do I have to give up solo travel?
Never. Roamate isn’t the end of solo travel — it’s the upgrade. Some days you’ll go it alone. Some days you’ll want someone to split the suite or the Uber with. Roamate is built for that balance: solo but shared.
But I like traveling alone.
So do we. Roamate was built with solo travelers, not against them. It’s not about giving up solo—it’s about more ways to do it: solo at sunrise, shared tasting menu at night. Roamate keeps both on the table.
Who is Roamate for?
Roamate is for anyone who’s tired of paying double, waiting on flaky friends, or skipping trips because the math didn’t work for one.
Is Roamate just for solo travelers?
We were born to End the Solo Tax™. But it works beyond solos, too. Couples can Roamate with other couples. Friends can team up. You can hop into a villa share. The math works the same — split never doubled.
Does Roamate replace solo travel?
Not even close. We enhance it. Roamate helps you split smarter, roam safer, and match better — without losing the freedom that makes solo travel worth it.
Is Roamate a dating app?
Nope. We match you for how you roam. Compatibility here means pace, vibe, trust, and costs. The rest? That’s between you and your itinerary.
How do I start using Roamate?
Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, create your profile, take our 25-question Vibe Check quiz, and start matching with Roamates who actually roam like you.
How old do I have to be to use Roamate?
18+. Roamate is for adult travelers only. (Sorry, gap-year high schoolers.)
Do I have to travel with strangers?
Not strangers—Roamates. You match based on personality and travel style, chat first, then decide if you’re a fit.
What if I prefer shorter or weekend trips?
Absolutely—Roamate matches every travel style: weekend escapes, city breaks, or epic journeys alike.
What if I don’t click with my Roamate during the trip?
While chemistry isn’t guaranteed, clear communication before traveling usually ensures a good fit. Open dialogue helps smooth any bumps.
Is Roamate suitable if I'm introverted or prefer quieter trips?
Perfect for you. The quiz specifically considers social energy and communication style, matching you with similarly-minded Roamates.
Getting Started / Accounts
How do I create a Roamate account?
Grab Roamate from the Apple App Store or Google Play, then sign up with an email. It’s free, fast, and takes less time than ordering an airport latte.
Can I sign up with Google/Apple accounts?
Not currently, but we will explore adding this in the future.
I forgot my password—how do I reset it?
Can I delete my account?
Can I control what notifications I receive from Roamate?
Can I adjust who can message or contact me?
Vibe Check Quiz & Matching
What is the Vibe Check quiz?
Why do I need to take it?
Why 25 questions? Isn’t that a lot?
It’s faster than a TSA line and reveals more about you than your ex ever did. We don’t do lazy matching. Twenty-five questions give us a full picture of your rhythm, habits, and comfort zones — so you’re not splitting a hotel with someone whose idea of “chill day” is climbing a volcano. (And yes, we made it fun. You’ll laugh, you’ll screenshot, you’ll probably learn something about yourself.)
But what does the quiz actually tell you?
You know that moment when you’re hiking and your Roamate is like, “One more mile!” and you’re like, “I want to die”? This quiz prevents that.
How does Roamate use my answers?
Only for one thing: matching you with compatible Roamates. That’s it. Your quiz results never affect feeds, posts, or anything else in the app.
What if I get matched with someone who isn’t my vibe?
No quiz is perfect — not even ours. The Vibe Check dramatically increases your odds of clicking, but it can’t predict every nuance of chemistry. Think of it as a compass, not a contract. That’s why we encourage you to use in-app messaging to feel someone out before you split a villa or a tuk-tuk. Compatibility starts with alignment, but it’s built in conversation.
Is Roamate’s matching 100% accurate?
What do I see at the end?
How do I take the Vibe Check compatibility quiz?
Can I retake the Vibe Check quiz?
How quickly can I expect matches after completing the quiz?
Matches appear as soon as there's someone compatible—because travel dreams shouldn’t wait.
What if I don’t have any Roamates right away?
Roamate is growing every day. As soon as someone compatible joins, you’ll see them in your matches. (And you’ll be first in line when they do.)
Can other users see my quiz answers or just my tags?
Only your top tags and travel persona are shown publicly. Your detailed answers remain private.
What if I don’t agree with my tags?
Can I filter who I’m matched with?
Not currently, but profiles clearly display age and location—giving you transparency about your matches.
If I delete my account, are my quiz results wiped?
Cleared to Roam™ Verification
What does “Cleared to Roam™” mean?
Roamate makes NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES about the completeness, accuracy, or timeliness of any background check. Reports may be incomplete, outdated, expunged, sealed, or contain errors. Roamate does not control the contents of third-party screening data.
Please carefully review the full terms and disclaimers of Cleared to Roam.><strong>Do I need Cleared to Roam to use Roamate?
No. You can match, post, and roam without it. The badge simply opens the verified door so verified Roamers can spot—and choose—each other.
Can I still travel with people who aren’t Cleared to Roam™?
Yes. The badge is optional. Some Roamers will only choose verified matches; others won’t care. The point is—you decide who feels right for you.
How long does it last?
12 months. After that, your badge expires and you can choose to renew. Think of it like a passport or TSA PreCheck—safety checks aren’t forever, they need refreshing.
Why every year? Isn’t that overkill?
Safety is our top priority, and annual re-checks are the norm everywhere from airport security to global visas. Life changes, records change, and keeping Cleared to Roam current is what makes the badge meaningful.
Why is this a paid feature?
What criteria makes someone "Cleared to Roam"?
If my background check doesn't qualify me for Cleared to Roam, can I appeal or get a refund?
What if I change my mind after starting the process?
Once a check begins, it can’t be cancelled or refunded (unless required by law). If you’re not sure, wait until you’re ready—because once the process starts, it runs automatically.
That said, if you pause mid-application, you can save your spot and pick it back up later to finish.
Does Cleared to Roam continuously monitor user behavior?
Does a badge guarantee someone’s safe?
How do I verify my identity or get "Cleared to Roam"?
How secure is my personal information during verification?
How is my data handled internationally?
In regions like the EU/UK, the check is only run with your explicit consent. Roamate never stores your full record—just a pass/fail result and timestamp.
Does Roamate verify users' photos or identities beyond the Cleared to Roam option?
If I have Cleared to Roam, can I lose that status later?
What if someone bad gets verified, then does something unsafe?
How does this compare to dating/travel apps that don’t offer criminal checks?
Most apps stop at photo uploads or simple ID verification. Roamate is the first travel platform to offer a criminal-records verification badge. It’s about raising the bar for trust—because travel isn’t just a swipe.
What if Cleared to Roam isn’t available in my country yet?
Where can I see how long verification takes for my country?
End The Solo Tax™
What is “End the Solo Tax™”?
End the Solo Tax™ is the movement at the heart of Roamate.
For decades, the travel industry has quietly charged solo travelers more — not just in money, but in access, safety, and emotional energy. Hotels, cruises, and tours were built for pairs. If you don’t show up with one, you pay more, carry more, and navigate more — alone. That’s the Solo Tax.
Roamate was built to end it. Not by replacing solo travel, but by reframing it. By giving solo travelers the power to split costs, match with people who roam like they do, and finally step into a system that was designed for them, not against them.
This is a cultural correction. It’s saying: independence shouldn’t come with a penalty.
End the Solo Tax™ isn’t about cheaper trips. It’s about fairer trips. It’s about giving 200M+ solo travelers the tools, language, and community they’ve never had — until now.
What is the Solo Tax?
The Solo Tax isn’t always about money — it’s about the cost of being left out of a system that was never built for one. Hotels, cruises, tours, and even drivers were priced for pairs from the start. If you don’t have someone to split with, you pay more: financially, logistically, and emotionally.
Am I really paying for two?
Not exactly — you’re paying more than one. Most hotel rooms, cruise cabins, tours, and transport were designed around double occupancy or two-person minimums. So unless you’ve got a built-in plus-one, you’re covering the full cost. That’s the Solo Tax — and yes, it’s real.
But airfare is per person, right?
Yes — flights are one of the few things that are per-person. But trips aren’t just flights. Rooms, cabins, safaris, tours, guides, even car hires often assume two. That’s why the Solo Tax stacks up fast.
Isn’t solo travel just a choice?
Totally. Roamate isn’t here to replace independence. We’re here to enhance it. You keep your freedom — we just give you the option to split smarter and roam safer when you want.
Why call it a “tax” if it’s not literal?
Because it’s systemic. Like the “pink tax” or “glass ceiling,” it’s shorthand for a pattern that solo travelers have been paying into for decades without a name. We trademarked it because it deserves one.
Isn’t this a bit dramatic?
It’s not drama. It’s math. Cruise lines openly charge 100–200% more for solo cabins. Tours apply “single supplements.” Hotels rarely discount for one. That’s not exaggeration — that’s the Solo Tax in action.
Are you blaming hotels and tour operators?
We’re not blaming. We’re building. The travel industry was built around couples and groups. We’re creating a way for solo travelers to split, connect, and roam differently — on their own terms.
