End the solo tax.

Find someone who roams like you because you shouldn’t have to pay for two.

What Is Roamate?

Finally, an app built for how you actually travel solo.

Roamate is the first compatibility-based solo travel platform designed to End the Solo Tax™ — creating a new category in tourism we call “solo but shared.” We connect people by how they travel, not just by dates or destinations.

Because the friend you’d brunch with isn’t always the one you’d split a tuk-tuk, a cruise cabin, or a 12-hour layover with.

Finding someone free the same week? Easy.

Finding someone who gets your 5am airport hustle and foodie obsession? That’s Roamate.

Compatibility, not just availability.

Whether you want to split the cost of a trip or find a full-on travel buddy, Roamate helps you roam your way.

Why Become a Roamer?

Stop waiting. Stop paying double. Start Roamating.

  • Because your bucket list shouldn’t hinge on someone else’s PTO.
  • Because you’re tired of paying for two when it’s just you.
  • Because you’ve got the time — just not the right match.
  • Because you want someone who plans like you and roams like you.
  • Because flaky friends and “maybe next year” texts don’t make it to the gate.
  • Because solo travel shouldn’t cost double, feel unsafe, be harder to plan, or leave you waiting on flaky friends.

Roamate fixes all five barriers:

Cost Safety Compatibility Connection Planning

The world’s too big to wait. And you? You were made to roam.

Cleared to Roam™

The only risk you should be taking is skydiving.

Optional & annual Screens 230 countries Visible badge & verified community

Safety is the #1 concern for solo travelers. That’s why Roamate created Cleared to Roam™ — an optional, annual criminal record background check that raises the bar for trust in travel.

Unlike platforms that stop at identity verification, Cleared to Roam goes further. Powered by a trusted third‑party provider, it screens public criminal records and global watchlists across 230 countries and territories. Once verified, your profile displays a visible badge and you unlock access to a verified community of fellow Cleared to Roam travelers.

Cleared to Roam™ gives solo travelers what the industry never built for them: visible accountability before you commit to share a room, a ride, or a trip. See how getting Cleared to Roam works →

You’ve got travel types. We’ve got your type.

This is what makes Roamate the first compatibility‑based solo travel platform

Matched not random.

Built with travel psychology to reveal how you actually roam. Travel fast‑forwards chemistry—you go from strangers to roommates in 24 hours. That’s why we match for compatibility, not just availability.

  • Sunrise catchers ≠ Sleep‑in laters
  • Spreadsheet planners ≠ “We’ll wing it” roamers
  • Budget splitters ≠ Big spenders
  • Tour bookers ≠ “Let’s just see what happens” explorers

Because “Sure, I’ll go” isn’t enough. It’s about who you’d want beside you when:

  • Maps sends you in a circle—again—and your phone is about to die.
  • You’re wheels‑down and your bag is wheels‑up somewhere else.

It’s not just where you’re going. It’s who you’re going with.

Your Roamate is already out there. This is how you find them.

Real compatibility logic

25 questions. Zero fluff. It takes minutes and feels like a game.

It’s fast. It’s fun. It’s your Roamate filter.

  • 100% scenario-based (you’ll laugh, then think)
  • Built on real compatibility logic—not vibes and guesswork
  • Unlocks your Roam Type™ tags and compatibility score
  • Auto-adds to your profile so the right Roamates can match with you

Better Roamate matches = fewer mismatches.

Because the difference between a trip you remember and a trip you recover from? Compatibility.

RoamList

Stop wishing. Start posting.

It’s your bucket list—without the solo tax.

  • The cruise cabin priced for two? Split it.
  • The food tour with the two-person minimum? Book it.
  • The suite upgrade that didn’t make sense solo? Roamate it.

Post your trips. Join someone else’s. See your exact cost before you commit. No guessing. No stressing.

Trips don’t belong on wish lists. They belong on RoamList.

RoamBoard

Screenshot less. Roam more.

Before Roamate, travel inspo lived in 32 tabs, 75 screenshots, and the group chat you muted a week ago.

Welcome Roamers

When people ask how I came up with Roamate, they expect the usual answers:

I saw a gap in the market.

I got tired of paying double.

There was a trip no one could join me on.

And all of that’s true, but it’s not the whole story.

I didn’t set out to build a travel company.

I set out to survive grief.

In December of 2021, I lost both of my sisters, Shannon (36) and Destiny (34), just three weeks apart.

Five months later, I booked a flight—because what else do you do when life shows you how short it is?

At first, travel was my escape. But grief follows you, even across oceans. So I stopped trying to outrun it. Travel became the way I carried it, and the one place I still felt them with me.

And on every trip, I met others who were carrying their own version of loss. Those connections kept me going. Trip after trip.

Sometimes I wanted to roam solo.

Sometimes I didn’t.

I’d find myself in places so beautiful they almost felt too big to keep to myself. I’d think: If only they were here to see this. Then I’d think: Why am I paying more just because I’m alone?

I paid double on every cruise. Hotels weren’t cheaper solo, and there was no one to split costs with me. Tours usually came with a two-person minimum.

So I started doing the math.

In the last four years, I spent over $20,684 extra on the “solo tax.” That’s 11 cruises. One trip to the British Isles. And a lifetime of memories I almost didn’t make because going alone costs more.

They built the whole travel industry for “plus ones.” Not the solo ones.

Not for people like you and me.

So I built Roamate.

Because if losing my sisters taught me anything, it’s that if you don’t go now, you might never go.

Destiny never made it to Hawaii, like she dreamed.

Shannon never got to go on that safari.

In quiet moments, staring out at oceans or looking down from airplane windows, I kept wondering:

How many of us are still waiting?

Waiting for the right time, the right plan, the right person.

Sometimes there isn’t any more time.

I wasn’t going to wait anymore.

And I didn’t want you to have to either.

Roamate is for the ones who are done waiting.

For the ones who want to go, but not always alone.

For the ones who know solo travel is liberating, but are tired of paying the penalty.

For the ones who are ready to go now, and finally, have an easier way to roam.

It’s time to END THE SOLO TAX™

Let’s roam,
