Roaming to Remember

For the trips grief asks you to take.

Some trips are not vacations.
They are anniversaries.
Birthdays. Ashes. Firsts. Lasts.
Places you were supposed to go together.

Roaming to Remember is a Roamate feature created for travelers carrying grief, honoring someone they love, or taking a trip connected to remembrance.

Because love never ends.

It travels. And sometimes, we carry them with us.

When you might use it

Roaming to Remember can support trips like:

  • Your first trip after losing someone
  • A trip on a loved one's birthday or death anniversary
  • Returning to a meaningful place
  • Spreading ashes
  • Visiting somewhere you planned to go together
  • Traveling after the loss of a spouse, partner, sibling, parent, child, or friend
  • Taking a trip because staying still feels impossible

There is no single version of grief travel. That is the point.

Find someone who understands

Roaming to Remember helps Roamers signal that grief or remembrance is part of the trip. That might mean you are:

looking for a fellow griever
open to traveling with someone who understands loss
hoping for gentle company
asking for support around a meaningful moment
not looking for advice, just presence

Sometimes you don't need someone to fix anything. You just need someone who understands that love does not end because someone is gone.

You still carry them. You still take them with you.
And sometimes, the trip is part of remembering.

The Process

How Roaming to Remember works

1

Add it to your profile or trip context

Roaming to Remember can help signal that grief, remembrance, or emotional meaning is part of how you're traveling.

2

Post to RoamList

You can share the kind of trip you're taking and what you're looking for.

3

Connect before you go

Roamers can request to join, message in-app, and talk through expectations before making plans. This helps both people understand the meaning of the trip before they agree to travel together.

For Example

"I lost my mom and always wanted to take this trip with her."

"I'm traveling on my sister's birthday and want someone who understands."

"This is my first trip without my partner."

"I'm spreading ashes and don't want to do it alone."

"I just need to go somewhere and be around someone who gets it."

Two Hearts

Created in honor of Shannon and Destiny.

Roaming to Remember was born from Roamate founder Charli Sharp's personal experience after losing both of her sisters, Shannon and Destiny, within weeks of each other.

Travel became part of how she survived grief.

The Roaming to Remember icon uses two hearts in their honor. Hearts are deeply connected to Shannon and Destiny's memory and inspired by Charli's own remembrance tattoo.

Grief does not make you less of a traveler.

You can be grieving and still want to see the world.

You can cry in a beautiful place.

You can laugh on a hard day.

You can take someone's memory with you and still make new memories.

Roaming to Remember exists because grief travels too.
And sometimes, it helps to roam with someone who understands.
